08/13/08  Entry information for the August 23-24 Points Race this Weekend  at the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex sprint track on the Road America grounds is posted! Click Here for Details!  Non-club members will be able to participate, just as they can when races are held at our home track.

Kid Karts will be racing at the motorplex as well.

Road America pit vehicles rules are in effect and will be enforced.  See www.roadamerica.com for all of the pit vehicle rules.

Use the discussion board for more questions, or more info.

08/08/08 We are in great need for volunteers on Sat and Sunday for the BKC race at RA Motorplex. As we did not draw for a bye week for this event - we are asking all BKC members to see if you have a family member, friend, neighbor, buddie, etc. to assist us at the Motorplex that weekend.   If Lisa has not received enough volunteers for the Road America event by the drivers meeting on the 17th there will be a class pulled for a second bye week to help at the event.  Working this event will count as a Special event day toward year end award requirements.

Please email  Lisa Thomson or call her cell (414) 322-2043 if you can find a volunteer - She needs to know soon so she can accommodate a pit pass for them as pit passes are run differently at Road America than our track.

The general membership meeting that would normally be on August 20th is cancelled. We will be at Paulies pub for the Racing Round up show on August 18th.

The September general membership meeting will take place at the track.

The points and fast times are updated through 08/03/08  JSS Points updated through 08/17/08

08/03/08 Race Report:

August 3, marked the 11th race in the Badger Kart Club’s Bridgestone Championship Series Points chase. With five or less races left in the series for each class, every position one can gain seems even more important. But also, it’s "The Dog Days of Summer and you need a day like Badger had at this juncture once in a while. With two of the biggest classes off for the weekend, the club enjoyed a short day thanks to about 40 less entries and no red flags. The racing was completed over an hour earlier than the club is accustomed to.

In Animal Jr. Sportsman action, sponsored by State Line Graphics it was Travis Lemay from start to finish. He was tailed for much of the race by Kourtney Borman, with Drew Carter tagging along at the mid-point to make it interesting. Borman’s best shot came on lap seven as she gave Lemay a look on the inside at the Boot. It didn’t go as she had planned though and she got sideways instead of getting by. Borman collected it enough that Carter could not capitalize but Lemay went on to the win.

Borman, on hiatus from her normal karting haunt, had a luxury that neither Lemay or Carter could afford as the two battle for the points lead. "I was just going for first," said Borman with a smile, when asked about settling in for second. It was her first time in the top three with Badger and she was thrilled with her success as a visitor. "Here the racing is a lot cleaner, a lot cleaner drivers," Borman noted, in paying a compliment to the BKC regulars. Asked about her near spin she replied, "He messed up, I tried to go under him but the kart twisted." Further, she had no idea Carter was right behind her.

Lemay was running on the mechanical edge it was learned at the post race inspection. His dad checked out the kart upon it passing the scales. He then pointed to a part on the kart for his driver to see. Travis’ eyes got big as he noticed his rear gear chewed up. "That thing was going to blow," he said with just the right amount of astonishment. While he was not aware of the impending doom the gear might have brought, he did know he was being chased. "I could hear her motor," was his take on being tailed.

Josh Bales tried to make it two in a row in Yamaha Jr. Sportsman action sponsored by Glen Egeland. But, Mike McAndrews had other ideas. McAndrews chased Bales into turn one on the white flag lap and tried to sneak under him, but pulled back. They gassed it into the left hander coming out of the Sweeper and this time McAndrews made it stick underneath Bales as the two snaked their way to the checkers. In the end it was McAndrews followed by Bales and Tyler Burns. In the points race Bales leads Burns and Ethan Roskopf with five point-paying races left in the Bridgestone series.

It was a close race for about half of a lap in Briggs Jr. Sportsman action sponsored by Roskopf’s RV Center. Then William Roscher took off leaving his two closest competitors to duke it out for second. In that battle Porter Weisensel could not solve Hannah Roskopf no matter what he tried. The two were seldom more than two kart lengths apart, the whole race. Weisensel looked good in the curves of the inner part of the track, while Roskopf seemed to have the speed on the straights. Whether he tried inside or out, Roskopf was up to the challenge from Weisensel.

After the race Roscher indicated he didn’t know how good he had it as he crossed the line three seconds sooner than Roskopf. "I thought they were right behind me," he noted, indicating he was hustling the whole time. Roscher is much improved this year as he has never finished lower than fourth, whereas last year his best showing was a fifth.

Roskopf was pleased with her second place run. Of the battle with Weisensel she noted, "I thought that he was probably going to pass me. I was trying to get better in the turns so he wouldn’t."

Weisensel, a young man of few words, was asked for his thoughts on the race, "Too slow," was as much insight as he would offer, perhaps hoping not to disparage his owner/crew chief. Asked if he was pleased with his third place finish in the eight kart field he simply replied, "I always get it (third)."
